Domaine Marcel Joubert
A Quincié-en-Beaujolais family that has been making natural wine from old vines for half a century.
Domaine Marcel Joubert is a family estate of around ten hectares in Quincié-en-Beaujolais, at the foot of Mont Brouilly. Marcel, the fourth generation, took the reins in 1972 and went organic from the off (certified since the 2012 vintage), drifting towards natural wine in the orbit of Georges Descombes and Jules Chauvet’s method. These days it’s run by his daughter, Carine.
The vines range from 30 to well over 100 years old, and the line-up goes from Gamay crus (Brouilly, Morgon, Fleurie, Chiroubles) to their Chardonnay whites, all wild-fermented with little or no intervention. Village wines that taste of where they’re from.
