Winery Burgmann

Three hectares in Tacoronte at 400 metres, and a Canadian winemaker who swapped aircraft for vines.

Winery Burgmann is a small winery in Tacoronte, in the north of Tenerife, with vineyard and cellar on the same estate at around 400 metres. The project got going in 2016 with the purchase of the first plot, and the person put in charge was Marc Rochefort, a Canadian aircraft maintenance engineer who fell so hard for Canarian wine that he changed his whole life for it. The first wines came out in 2020.

It’s about three hectares, with vines aged anywhere from 20 to well over 100 years, hand picking and roughly 6,000 bottles a year, mostly Listán Negro, as you’d expect in Tacoronte-Acentejo. Their most special wine, though, is a white: Olivia, a Listán Blanco aged on its lees in a numbered edition, named after Rochefort’s daughter, who was born right in the middle of harvest.
